About Us
My family has been farming around here for several generations. Great-great grandpa Lars Severson immigrated from Norway in 1866 and eventually settled in Garfield township, Illinois where he farmed and is now buried.

In 1989, I immigrated west a few miles to Goodfarm township, about 80 miles south-west of Chicago, just outside of Dwight (blue dot on map, right). I began by raising corn, soybeans. After a few years I met a pretty girl who not only loved me but the farm also.

Unhappy with the introduction of GMOs and the direction agriculture was taking in the 1990's, I started experimenting with organic methods. We started transitioning 20 acres into organic production in 2004 and raised our first certified organic sweet corn in 2007. Since then we have expanded to farming over 400 acres organic and expanded our crops to organic oats, wheat, popcorn, soybeans and buckwheat, and the best crop of all: kids.

Same tractor. Same kids (+1). 19 years apart
Our family from left to right: Our son Joel is the one who takes care of the cows. Next to him, Sarah does the baking and goes to the farmer's markets. My lovely wife Karen (middle front) does most of the paperwork and packaging for orders. Behind her is the farmer himself, Brian. Luke does the milling and helps with orders. Next is Seth who currently lives out of state with his wife Anna (far right) where he follows his dream of being a pilot.
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
